A few years ago Alicia Merrett from the United Kingdom discovered the potential of maps and aerial views as sources for textile work. Spacetime Geographies:Town Journeys is a continuation of that creative practice:
In life we move through the three dimensions of space, and also along the fourth dimension of time. In this abstracted map of a town, inhabitants who go about their daily activities, journey not only in space but in time. Places are signposted, but there also clocks showing different times.
Alicia is presenting a special two day workshop in Shropshire on 24 and 25 May: read more about The View from Above: Adventures in Textile Map-Making.
just a moment is a series of daily blog posts from 29 January to 29 February 2016 that will feature an artist and preview their artwork from the exhibition a matter of time. The exhibition will premiere at the Stitches & Craft Show, Sydney: 3-6 March 2016 and continues on tour in 2016/2017. All welcome!
I so love your work Alicia, and maps are the most facinating subject for artists. XX Alvena.
